Dark Night Pushing Super Hero Movies Into The Mainstream?

I am still to see the Watchmen movie. I really want to see this movie. But because of the 18 certificate I doubt i'll see it 'til the DVD is out, although I suspect it will be a great Blu-Ray experience. But I went looking for friends that would be interested in seeing it expecting no one wanting to see it because none of my friends are into super hero movies or any comics. But when I was asking around it turns out a lot of my friends want to see it.

At first I assumed this was because MCR were on the soundtrack but to my suprise it was because they thought the trailer looked good. But the biggest reason was because they loved The Dark Knight. This left my shocked because these where people that would rather jump of a bridge than read a comic or see a super hero movie. But because they had seen The Dark Knight they wanted to see more.

So perhaps bigger audiences are being drawen into the media of super hero movies through the more popular super hero movies. This seems like it is obvious that they people will the be interested in getting more comic book based stuff. I hope this is the direction the movies are moving in.

Or this could all be 'cause Gerald Way wrote the Umbrella Academy.

Reputation Going To Far?

Currently Horne and Gorgon are British super stars. They have a hit TV show, there own sketch show and are now jumping into movies with lesbian vampire killers.
But have they only been this successful because of their reputation?
It seems that the pair first surfaced on British screens with Gavin And Stacey. I find Gavin And Stacey very enjoyable and funny but Horne and Gordon don't make it complete. Yet it seems the whole of the British public have fallen in love with this comedy duo just because of this one TV show.
So the BBC gave them there own sketch show which I watched thinking it would be good. The show was alright but not as good as I was expecting . Some of the sketches were just not funny. And a lot of people I know agreed with me. So perhaps these guys didn't deserve or have the talent to support there own series just yet?
But then they get their own movie! Lesbian Vampire Killers. Sounds like a dodgy porno to be honest. Now I've only seen the trailer but it looks rubbis. It looks cheap. But the chances are this film will be very popular because it's classed under the "comedy horror" genre which means Horne and Gordon must be great in it 'cause they were funny in Gavin And Stacey.
Maybe people should stop getting evalulated by their popularity and reputation and by their talent and skill.

The Blogger A Podcaster?

I hope to soon start a comic book/video games based podcast. There will be some prep and once I'm working in the summer I will hopefully have money to get the required equipment and get it up and running. Me and a friend will be doing this so watch this space for more info!!

What Is There To Do?

Young people get bored easily. Thats a simple fact. So why does it seem like there is nothing for us "youngsters" to keep us busy? In the news we hear about how young people are getting into trouble and just hanging round streets. I'm one of the people that walks streets with my friends at night. We might be a little noisey but we are never causing trouble or drinking. But the reason why we are on the streets is because there is just nothing to do in my local area.

Now the council have thrown up some parks which are built for small children and not teenagers. The people broughts us THREE shopping centres! Great! A place were us teens can go and realise we have no money to spend! And even then when we hang around the centre, completely out of the way, we are told to move on!!

And thats it. Thats all we have to do. There is nothing else to do that is free. It's no wonder why some young people have turned to drink. Although I don't support teens drinking maybe if there was more things for young people to do or even just for us to go there would be less teens drinking in the street?

Where Is The Money Going?

I recently had some work experience at the West Lothian Council, my local council, and discovered that they have a budget of £380 million! Now this would be fine if the money was used wisely but I had to think that surely even £10 million would have been fine?

Now this may seem to be a random thing to complain about. My council has a £380 million to spend improving my area? What's this kid moaning about! But really £380 million whilst people in developing countries are starving and homeless? I have to say at my part of the council, Livingston South, seems to have nothing getting improved. We seem to get pointless roadworks and new shopping centres built when we already have two perfectly good ones!!
I can't believe that we are willing to let people use this money when people are dying because they have none! The pointless things that we spend money on could be spent on fixing the "world poverty" issue?

A Retro Comic Review - Iron Man #200

Hey. Here's to my first post!

Okay well #200 of Iron Man isn't actually that significant. But it did inspire the villian for the Iron Man movie. I bought this issue for about a fiver on good old eBay so I had some Iron Monger stuff.

So this is a pretty solid issue. It double length to celebrate the big 200. This issue feels good 'cause Stark seems to finally get over his "I'm a drunk" issue. It sees Obidiah Stane attack Starks friends. Stark decides it's time to get even and debuts the silver centurion armour which is quite cool. When Stark crashes into what at the time was called Stane International he is attacked by Stane using his own version of the Iron Man armour that he was called the Iron Monger armour. After an awesome fight Stark has Stane cornered. And in an unseen move Stane blows his own head off with his own repulsor ray.
This story feels like a classic Good vs. Evil story with the baddie and the goodie having a sloberfest just in the name of justice.
Another awesome part of the comic is a brief four/five panel page of Iron Man flying into space, stopping and then tilting himself towards earth and then rocketing downwards back down to earth. It was AWESOME!
